Darren Dunn grew up in the suburbs of Houston (Missouri City, Texas), but has lived in Seguin, Texas for the past 25 years. He currently serves as a partner and general manager for Guadalupe Media, LTD, which operates KWED Radio (AM 1580) and the Seguin Daily News. He's an award winning radio broadcaster, who's been recognized for his on-air work covering news and other events in the Seguin area. He's the current stadium voice of Texas Lutheran Football. In 2017, he was recognized as Citizen of the Year by the Seguin Gazette newspaper.
For more than two decades, he has been very active in the Seguin community. He's past president of the Rotary Club of Seguin and past chairman of the Seguin Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. He's also served on the Seguin Zoning Board of Adjustments, and he's currently a member of the Guadalupe Appraisal District Board of Directors. For the past few years, he has also served on the Board of Directors for the Texas Lutheran University Foundation.
Dunn has worked on a number of successful bond election committees, including the Destination Seguin, and the Seguin '13 bond committees. Both bond election packages were quality of life projects for the community. They helped to build new parks, upgrade downtown Seguin, build a new public library, and to fund the construction of a new Seguin High School. The SHS project will provide new academic and extracurricular space for the nearly 2,000 students that attend SHS. The combined bond projects represent nearly $150 million worth of investments in Seguin.
In 2012 and 2013, he worked with a number of local leaders, including the mayor, county judge and superintendent of schools, to create the "Partnership for a Better Seguin Committee," which looked at a number of challenges facing Seguin, including poverty, crime, and schools. The committee's work led to a number of policy improvements at the city and school district level.
